Centrally located in the Perth CBD, the State Solicitor’s Office has a staff contingent of approximately 275, including 172 lawyers, 9 law graduates, 3 professional assistants and 91 administrative, research, paralegal and support staff. About the role Do you have proven working knowledge and experience in procedural law? Are you experienced in leading and managing teams within a legal environment? The State Solicitor’s Office is seeking to recruit both developing and senior leaders of the paralegal industry, who will thrive in the dynamic environment of providing legal services to the Government of Western Australia. These leaders will be responsible for managing a team to provide appropriate support to the State Solicitor’s Office’s legal officers and clients, while ensuring effective working relationships are established and maintained between all members of the team and other State Solicitor’s Office workgroups. The Level 5 Managing Law Clerk is responsible for managing a range of complex legal files and providing high level paralegal assistance to senior legal officers. The Level 6 Senior Managing Law Clerk is required to manage complex legal files, and use independent judgement to carry out complex paralegal work, which would not normally be subject to review by senior officers. The work is interesting, diverse and challenging, with at least two 12 month fixed term positions to be filled immediately across our range of teams, including: Litigation; Advice, Policy and Public Law; Native Title and State Lands; and Major Matters (administrator experience with electronic discovery software is highly desirable for this team). This pool will be open for a period of 12 months, and additional positions are also likely to become available throughout the term of this pool. About you Successful applicants will require excellent communication skills, together with proven working knowledge and experience in procedural law relevant to Civil Litigation. It is essential that you have sound knowledge and experience in both: the management of teams within in a legal environment; and the management of legal matters. Though these positions do not require the occupant to hold formal qualifications it is highly desirable that applicants have, or are undertaking, some form of related studies.
