About the role: Taskforce Reset Disclosure Team sits within Taskforce Reset in the Specialist Operations Portfolio. Taskforce Reset was established to continue the discovery and disclosure work undertaken by Taskforce Landow in response to the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants (RCMPI). Taskforce Reset will also co-ordinate the implementation of recommendations made by the RCMPI. The taskforce includes a multi discipline team of sworn, VPS and contracted Lawyers and Barristers. Within Taskforce Reset, the Disclosure Team focuses on Victoria Police’s disclosure obligations, in both the criminal and civil jurisdictions. The successful applicant will be required to manage the disclosure process in relation to all Court of Appeal matters and oversee the management of general and civil disclosures, as well as managing and supporting the development of a team of lawyers (Victoria Public Servants VPSG3 – VPSG5 and contracted lawyers) and sworn members. This role will also include portfolio management responsibilities, as directed by the Commander of Taskforce Reset. The role will require demonstrated effective leadership skills, self-management of performance and workload skills, and demonstrated ability to monitor and develop internal and external stakeholder relationships. The successful applicant will be required to provide high level legal and strategic planning advice for the disclosure processes and work closely with Legal Services Department and Taskforce Reset. Providing independent high quality specialist, strategic and innovative advice to the Region/Department/Command on complex legal and/or policy issues impacting Victoria Police and its ongoing obligation of disclosure. Self-management of case load and service delivery requirements. Building and maintaining sound relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners. Managing and coaching a team of lawyers. As the successful applicant, you will have: Admission to practice as an Australian Lawyer; A current unrestricted practicing certificate; Extensive knowledge and experience in relevant legislation, policy and legal practice pertaining to the role and organisation; Extensive demonstrated experience in the preparation of complex and sensitive court cases, especially in the higher court jurisdiction; Exceptional communication skills; Sound leadership and decision-making skills; Experience managing a team; Strong people skills – including high levels of emotional intelligence and self-awareness; Resilience. Requirements and relevant information: One (1) full time, fixed term until 31/12/2022 position available. The position will be located at 456 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne. The successful candidate will be required to undergo and successfully obtain and maintain a National Security Clearance. To obtain this clearance applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
