About Us Fines and Enforcement Services (FES) is a business unit within the Department of Justice and Community Safety’s Fines, Registration and Crime Prevention group. FES is responsible for managing the end-to-end infringements system in Victoria and includes the Director, Fines Victoria and the Sheriff’s Office of Victoria. About the Role As a senior member of FES’s Legal and Commercial (L&C) team, the Principal Legal Adviser will provide strategic advice on a wide range of commercial, administrative, and public law issues as well as litigation matters. On a day-to-day basis, the Principal Legal Adviser will: Provide key legal and strategic advice, and distil externally sourced advice, on commercial engagements and disputes as well as administrative law matters. Drive the implementation of fines reform and continuous improvement of the Victorian fines system. Manage and oversee all aspects of legal and commercial matters relating to designated contracts including preparing commercial and contractual terms and conditions for contracts, contract variations, subcontracts and other instruments and providing advice on contractual issues. Identify new and emerging legal and commercial risks and liabilities and develop creative, cost effective, definitive options and legal strategies for the management of those risks. Working in a complex and busy environment, this position requires the ability to operate with sound judgment and significant commercial acumen while managing competing priorities.
