Autonomous Senior Legal Counsel role within established legal function | Advise across governance, general commercial, property projects The company: This not for profit has experienced considerable growth and development not only across the organisation but specifically within the legal, risk, compliance and governance function in recent years. With a new strategy and ambitious program of work, this newly created and highly varied role is for an initial 12 month contract with strong potential for extension and permanence. About the role: Reporting to the Head of Legal Services, this newly created Senior Legal Counsel role will see you join a large and established legal function. Your role will be varied and challenging and see you provide support across the organisation. Specifically, you will: Provide legal advisory services on a range of commercial matters including contracts, fundraising, intellectual property, privacy law, information technology, work health and safety; Contribute to the development and implementation of the organisational strategy within the Legal & Governance function; Play a key role in building and executing the governance strategy; Lead contractual negotiations with external vendors on legal matters as required; Provide advice in relation to charitable and governance matters, including advice in relation to constitutions and by-laws, directors duties and obligations under the relevant legislation; Draft, advise on and review existing leasing and property transactions; Advise in relation to disciplinary, investigative or dispute resolution matters; Identify and advise on risk issues arising from legal matters; Liaise with and brief external legal service providers as required; and Provide legal training sessions to stakeholders. Skills/Experience: To be considered for this role you will have: 10 years’ experience across the above areas of legal practice, ideally with experience in NFP or large, complex organisations and governance experience; a commercial approach and high degree of commercial nous in managing a variety of internal and external stakeholders; Well-developed negotiating and influencing skills to resolve conflicts and achieve outcomes; High level communication and relationship management skills; Well-developed interpretive, analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to produce clear, timely and concise advice; and An approach which sees you partner with and listen to your internal stakeholders and to simplify complex legal issues into concepts that can be understood, are fit for purpose and can be practically implemented.
