An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Lawyer on an ongoing basis in the Economic Policy Group and Regulation Reform team. Economic Policy provides advice on macroeconomic conditions and policy, regulation reform and environment, industry and resources policy to improve Victoria’s prosperity. The 2020-21 Budget provides $74.8 million over four years for a program of regulatory reform to support Victoria’s recovery from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The reform package will help ensure regulatory settings are fit-for-purpose, support regulators (including local government) to simplify and speed up approval processes and build on the experience of regulating during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic to improve the use of technology. The reform package will make it easier for businesses to deal with government, while supporting consumer and business confidence by ensuring regulation protects consumers and the community from harm. Key initiatives include running a second round of the Better Approvals Program and establishing a Fast Track Review Unit. This work will include identifying new technology solutions and working with local government to respond to business concerns and make it easier to start new businesses. A $40 million Regulation Reform Incentive Fund will support implementation of priority regulatory reforms across the Victorian public sector and local government. As our ideal candidate, you will be required to demonstrate High level analytical, research, and qualitative skills, with a strong understanding of major legal, economic and social trends and policy directions. Demonstrated ability to analyse complex policy and legal issues to identify key risks and to assess the implications of policy ideas. Proven ability to lead major pieces of work including legislative design and provide strategic and influential advice to senior management or government on key policy and legal issues. Proven experience in managing significant projects, policy and program development, project delivery and implementation Strong people leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and manage high performing teams in a fast-paced environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex issues persuasively and effectively. Ability to work collaboratively or on a self-directed basis. Ability to identify, build and maintain strong networks and relationships with stakeholders to achieve teamwork objectives.
